Is An Officeless Workflow Right For My Business?

One of the realities we’ve had to cope with over the past year is that working from home can become necessary to ensure the survival of your business. Even those that once rejected the idea of remote working have had to come to grips with the fact that establishing an officeless workflow can become essential to keep your business running.

As a relatively new business owner, your startup does have more choices. Instead of simply adapting your current workflow to a remote one, it’s possible for you to establish a completely officeless business model that makes it easy for you to run your business from home. But is it the right choice? Should we be cutting out the idea of having an office? 

1. It’s cheaper to start a business without an office

One huge benefit to having an officeless workflow is that you can start a business for much cheaper. Renting office space is extremely expensive and certainly not something a small startup can afford unless they have investors behind them. This makes it much cheaper to get your business started, and your capital can be used in other areas like marketing.

2. You can still rent an office space if you need to

This is not to say you can’t rent an office if needed. There are many types of workspaces you can rent for temporary use. For instance, some might rent a small office space to host meetings with their team, or rent a coworking space to set up a meeting with a client. Being officeless doesn’t mean completely abandoning the idea of a physical office, but it does drastically reduce your reliance on it.

3. You can access a larger talent pool

An officeless business also has access to a much larger pool of talent. Since you can recruit people from any corner of the earth, you’ll find it much easier to get access to talented people, which can drastically improve your chances of success.

4. There are fewer office distractions to deal with

Whether it’s avoiding office politics or cleaning up office clutter, there are lots of office distractions you can avoid, which ultimately leads to increased productivity.

5. It can improve work-life balance

Working remotely can actually improve your work-life balance since it gives you more control over when you work and how you work. Some people prefer to wake up in the morning and get their work done so they can drive their children to school. Others might prefer to spend the evening working instead to have their day free to visit friends and family members. Having more control over your life is one of the biggest benefits of having an officeless workflow.

6. Your employees might be encouraged to work harder

Lastly, some employees are more likely to work harder when there is more responsibility on their shoulders. In an office environment, you always have senior members and managers looking over your shoulder and giving you direction. When you work from home, however, employees are generally on their own, which puts more responsibility in their hands.
